Helping to expand the agritourism industry in New York State

Agricultural tourism—commonly referred to as agritourism—focuses on activities that attract customers to the farm which will lead to farm product sales. There are many activities that are considered agritourism including u-pick, hayrides, petting zoo, educational tours, farm stay, workshops, and more. 

Harvest New York is a key contributor to statewide educational efforts including webinars, regional networking events, tours, fact sheets, and more.

In New York, there are over 900 farms that offer agritourism with earnings of $55.5 million (2022 Census of Agriculture) and that number continues to grow.

2026 NYS Agritourism Conference

The 2026 New York State Agritourism Conference is designed to help farms build and strengthen successful visitor experiences. The conference features expert-led sessions, peer learning, and real-world examples focused on expanding direct sales, education, hospitality, and entertainment offerings.

While geared toward New York State farms starting or growing an agritourism operation, the conference is also valuable for educators, public officials, and tourism professionals interested in supporting agritourism across the state. Agritourism Webinar Series

This series of monthly webinars provides practical considerations and key takeaways for building successful agritourism operations in New York State. Both new and established agritourism operations are encouraged to join us. 

2026 topics include farm safety for agritourism operations, crisis management and emergency planning, labor laws, hosting kid camps and school tours, understanding agricultural assessments and agritourism insurance, and using online platforms.

New Continuous Open Enrollment Agritourism Course Helps New York Farms Prepare for the 2027 Season

Flexible online training provides practical tools, expert guidance, and peer networking for current agritourism operators and aspiring farm businesses looking to strengthen their operations. This comprehensive professional development program is designed to help farms build successful, sustainable, and profitable agritourism experiences.

Participants can choose the learning format that best fits their schedule. The course is available as:

  • Asynchronous Online Learning – Complete the course at your own pace with one year of access.
  • Live Virtual Sessions – Join interactive sessions on January 22, February 5, and February 19, 2027 from Noon–1:00 pm.

Current Projects

Assistance for Agritourism Operations to Develop & Implement Accessibility

Funded by the Northeast Extension Risk Management Education Center, Harvest New York is leading a multi-state initiative to provide practical, farm-focused technical assistance to agritourism operations in New York, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia to improve accessibility for visitors with disabilities while reducing human, legal, and operational risks. Recognizing that every disability presents unique needs, the project emphasizes flexible, cost-effective solutions that help farms create safer, more welcoming environments for all visitors. By translating accessibility standards into practical farm management strategies—including improvements to signage, pathways, communication, staff training, and visitor policies—this project will help producers strengthen risk management, improve customer service, reduce potential liability, and expand market opportunities.
