4-H
4-H is the nation's largest youth development program, open to any young person ages 5 to 18. You don't need to live on a farm, and you don't need previous experience - 4-H welcomes kids from urban neighborhoods and rural towns alike, whether they're drawn to animals and gardening, robotics and rocketry, cooking, sewing, photography, or public speaking.
Grounded in the four H's - head, heart, hands, and health - the program meets young people's basic needs for independence, belonging, generosity, and mastery through hands-on learning about the things that interest them most. In Broome County, 4-H reaches youth through clubs, schools, and community programs, with a focus on citizenship, healthy living, and science and technology. Along the way, members build the confidence, compassion, and connections with caring adults that carry into adult life.
Families, volunteers, and community groups are part of 4-H too. Adult volunteers lead clubs and share their skills, and parents often find the program becomes a family activity. Get in touch with our 4-H staff to find a club near you or to learn about volunteering.

Public Presentations
Public Presentations is often cited by 4-H alumni as the most significant and valuable 4-H learning experience, more so than any other 4-H program. Youth, with the support of their families, clubs, and 4-H staff learn to develop presentations on topics that are most relevant and exciting to them. With lots of practice and a little experience, youth develop confidence in presenting their topics in front of the evaluators at the County and even District level. The greatest learning begins when youth are able to use the positive, constructive feedback from our evaluators to further develop their skills in planning, preparing, and presenting their next presentation. Youth 13 & up who complete a county level public presentation during the year and submit a Member Report Form at the end of year will be eligible to interview for Awarded Trips.
Wondering how to get started?
Attend our workshops we will be hosting in January and February. These will help youth prepare and work towards giving a fantastic public presentation. dates to be announced soon!
Interested in Volunteering?
We need positive, thoughtful, encouraging volunteers to act as evaluators for the presentations. Don't worry, we will train you! Most importantly, we want to leave our youth with a positive and constructive experience. Please let Mallory know if you are interested in helping for this event (mri26 [at] cornell.edu).
