Nutrition

CCE Broome County offers free nutrition education throughout the county - for youth, adults, families, school districts, and community partners. Through EFNEP, SNAP-Ed, the Healthy Lifestyle Coalition, and Farm to School, we help people build cooking and food budgeting skills, eat more fruits and vegetables, get more physical activity, and stretch their food dollars. Good nutrition and regular activity are among the most effective ways to prevent chronic disease, and every nutrition workshop we offer is free.

Through these programs our goal is to:

  • Increase the consumption of nutrient-dense fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, and low-fat dairy products
  • Decrease sugar-sweetened beverage consumption
  • Reduce the consumption of low-nutrient, high-energy dense foods containing large amounts of added sugars, salt, and saturated fats
  • Increase physical activity and reduce sedentary behaviors
  • Improve food resource management skills
  • Improve food preparation skills
