Food Safety

The ENYCHP Food Safety Program helps commercial fruit and vegetable growers understand and implement practices that protect produce safety, meet buyer requirements, and comply with applicable food safety regulations. Through educational workshops, technical assistance, and research-based resources, the program provides guidance on Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs), the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule, agricultural water management, worker hygiene and training, sanitation, and on-farm food safety risk assessment. Our specialists help growers understand evolving regulatory requirements, prepare for food safety audits, and develop practical food safety practices suited to their operations. Elisabeth Hodgdon serves as our Regional Food Safety Specialist.  She provides regional food safety education and assistance, working in collaboration with Cornell's statewide produce safety educators and other Extension specialists to help growers produce safe, high-quality fruits and vegetables.
