Sullivan Fresh Markets, Community Cupboard & Farmers’ Markets
The Sullivan Fresh initiative operates two main programs:
- Sullivan Fresh Community Cupboard
- Sullivan Fresh Market program
Together, these programs work to overcome food insecurity in Sullivan County while building sustainable markets for local farmers. They make fresh fruits and vegetables more affordable and accessible, and they support the local agricultural economy.
Sullivan Fresh Community Cupboard
The Community Cupboard has provided enough food and prepared meals to make more than 800,000 free meals and personal necessities to folks in need from all walks of life across Sullivan County.
Food is procured from farm and food producers in Sullivan County and the surrounding region, food pantries, and donors. They are nutritionally rounded by MyPlate standards and include healthy recipes and tips for safe food preparation and storage.
Delivers food and prepared meals to our neighbors living in rural communities and food deserts, veterans, seniors, those with limited transportation, varying abilities, and folks from all walks of life who need an extra hand.
Support community through grassroots neighborhood connections, door-to-door deliveries, and learning opportunities for homebound and vulnerable residents, ensuring full bellies, a pathway to healthier living, and community participation and resilience.
Farm to Food Bank Program (via Nourish NY)
The Nourish NY Program, funded by NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets in partnership with CCE Orange, helped us develop a Farm to Food Bank program as part of the Sullivan Fresh Community Cupboard. This program helped us purchase $40,000 in farm products in 2021. It’s a win-win program, providing fresh produce, meats, eggs, and dairy to friends and neighbors facing food insecurity, while supporting the Sullivan County agricultural economy.
