As warmer weather returns to the North Country, the Watertown Farm & Craft Market is preparing for another vibrant market season, bringing together local farmers, artisans, musicians, and shoppers eager to support small businesses and enjoy fresh, locally made products. Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County (CCE Jefferson) recently transitioned into the management of the market from the Greater Watertown–North Country Chamber of Commerce. CCE Jefferson will continue operating the Watertown Farm and Craft market much as it has been in previous years, preserving many of the traditions and features residents have come to expect.
The market will continue to operate on Wednesdays from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. from May 27th through October 7th along Washington Street near the Dulles State Office Building in downtown Watertown. Many familiar vendors and local musicians are expected to return, helping preserve the welcoming atmosphere that has defined the market for generations. This season also marks the market’s 49th anniversary since its founding in 1977.
Set within the historic downtown corridor, the Watertown Farm and Craft Market has become more than simply a place to shop. The weekly event brings color, activity, and a strong sense of community to the heart of the city each spring and summer. Visitors can expect to find fresh produce, flowers, baked goods, handcrafted items, and locally prepared foods, including lunch options from one of the many food trucks that will be onsite each week.
This year’s market will also be participating in many food benefit programs designed to give community members the opportunity to purchase local foods, including SNAP. It will also be hosting the WIC and Office for the Aging organizations who will be handing out Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers. One new addition to this year’s market is the Double Up Food Bucks program. This program is designed to match SNAP dollars at a 1:1 ratio for the purchase of fruit and vegetables.
The CCE Jefferson team is excited for the 2026 farmers market season, and the opportunity to further promote agriculture and local food. In addition to the Watertown Farm and Craft Market, there is a rich variety of farmers markets, as well as farm stands, throughout Jefferson County. Residents are encouraged to learn more about local farmers markets and other great places to purchase local food products through the Jefferson County Local Food Guide website, https://www.jcnylocalfoods.org.
