Feeding a new baby is one of the first decisions parents make, and it often comes with a lot of questions. Every family approaches feeding differently, and what works for one may not work for another. Having access to information and support can help families feel more confident as they figure out what works best for them.

Many parents find it helpful to learn about feeding before their baby arrives, while others look for information after. Questions can come up at any point, and they don’t always have a clear or immediate answer. Having access to reliable information and support can help parents feel more comfortable asking questions and making decisions as they go.

Breastfeeding education provides practical information on topics such as understanding hunger cues, proper latch and positioning, establishing a feeding routine, and working through common challenges. It also gives families the opportunity to learn, ask questions, and find what works best for them. Having someone you can talk to about any concern and get guidance can help parents feel more confident as they make decisions.

At Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Jefferson County (CCE), we have a certified lactation consultant available to support families in our community. This service is offered at no cost and is open to anyone who may want guidance, have questions, or just wants to learn more. Support is available both before and after a baby arrives.
