With energy costs continuing to put pressure on household budgets, local volunteers across the North Country are helping neighbors find ways to save money, stay comfortable, and learn about clean energy programs available in the North Country.

Through the North Country Clean Energy Hub’s Energy Navigators program, community volunteers are trained to help residents better understand energy efficiency, home heating and cooling options, and programs that may help lower the cost of upgrades like air sealing, insulation, heat pumps, and solar energy. The goal is simple: neighbors helping neighbors make their homes more affordable and energy efficient.

The program is designed to be hands-on and community focused. Volunteers are expected to participate in all 10 training sessions and complete assignments as needed. During their first year, Navigators work to help at least 10 residents take real steps toward saving energy, lowering costs, and exploring renewable energy options while completing at least 60 hours of volunteer service which includes 20 hours of training.

Energy Navigators are already active throughout the community, assisting at local events and festivals, talking one-on-one with residents about energy usage, and helping families connect with available resources. Some volunteers also participate in home energy walk-throughs, helping residents identify simple ways to reduce energy waste and improve comfort at home.

The next round of Energy Navigator training is scheduled to run from September 8th through October 30th and is open to residents of Jefferson and Lewis counties interested in volunteering in their communities. No prior experience is required! Just an interest in helping others and learning more about energy saving opportunities available in the region.

After completing the training, volunteers can choose how involved they would like to be, whether that means helping at community events alongside Hub Staff, having conversations with neighbors, or supporting additional outreach efforts across the North Country.

Anyone interested in learning more about the upcoming training program or becoming an Energy Navigator can visit the North Country Clean Energy Hub website for additional details or reach out to Nick Hamilton-Honey, CCE St. Lawrence, at 315-379-9192 ext. 230.

With your help, we can create safer, more comfortable, and more energy-efficient homes across the North Country.
