Shelly has lived in Shokan for 30 years and is a graduate of the Onteora Central School District. She graduated from SUNY New Paltz, with a degree in K-6 Elementary Education, with a second concentration in Anthropology, and a master's degree in Reading. As a child, Shelly spent a lot of time at the stream with her fisherman Dad, hunting for macros and minnows in vernal pools and streamside shallows. She was an environmental educator through the summers, including working as the Nature Director at Camp Trimount. Her career started as a classroom teacher, where she eventually taught students from every grade level until she became a librarian about a decade ago. She enjoys playing music, gardening, and being at home with the chickens, the dogs, and her family. Shelly is grateful to give back to her community in her role as an educator at the Watershed Program.
