Agriculture

Agriculture has been a cornerstone of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Genesee County since our founding in 1917. Today, it remains one of the largest and most important industries in Genesee County, and supporting a strong, sustainable agricultural community continues to be a central part of our mission.

Our Agriculture Program provides education, resources, and support to farmers, producers, and community members across a variety of areas, including dairy, livestock, poultry, field crops, farm business management, and agricultural education. Through research-based information, consultation, and programming, we work to help local agriculture remain productive, innovative, and resilient.

Agriculture in the Classroom

Agriculture plays an essential role in our everyday lives. From the food we eat to many of the products we use daily, it all begins with agriculture. Even at the elementary level, it is important for students to develop an understanding and appreciation for how agriculture impacts their world—whether they live in a rural area or in the middle of town. Our program encourages students to explore where their food and resources come from and to turn their curiosity about agriculture into meaningful learning.

For Teachers:
Our goal is to introduce agriculture in a simple, engaging way and help students recognize how many aspects of their daily lives are connected to it. We welcome opportunities to collaborate with teachers and align activities with classroom lessons whenever possible. The program includes interactive, hands-on activities designed to spark excitement and curiosity among students. We appreciate your partnership and support in helping make this experience fun, educational, and successful for your class.
