Project Summary and Intended Outcomes

Ps: It Works! curriculum is currently designed for parents and/or caregivers of children.  Using a 2Gen approach, the curriculum will be adapted to include child and youth components to facilitate participation in the workshop along with their parent/caregiver.  Children and parents will receive the educational component in two separate groups, learning the skills independently, and then come together at the end of each session to practice the skills together as a family and to interact with one another in a healthy manner.  2Gen adaptations will include multiple child and youth age groups to accommodate a broad range of participants that will ultimately allow for strengthening the bond between parent/caregivers and their children.

Roles and Responsibilities

The intern will be responsible for becoming familiar with the current 8 week PS: It Works! curriculum. Once familiar with the content the intern will work with CCE parent educators skilled in use of the curriculum to determine the appropriateness of adaptations for different child and youth age groups.  The intern will then utilize research to develop age-appropriate curriculum components that compliment the adult curriculum. The intern will be responsible for demonstrating progress to their supervisor, obtaining feedback and making changes as necessary.

Qualifications and Previous Coursework

Knowledge of child development, parenting education programing, 2Gen approach, curriculum development and research and evidence-based information.   Self-motivation and self-direction. Once provided with direction and feedback, the intern is expected to work with a team, and independently, to see the project through to completion.  Excellent writing, editing, and verbal skills.  Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite, Word and Publisher.

Benefits and Skills

The student will gain an in-depth understanding of the PS: It Works! curriculum and the 2Gen approach to curriculum adaptation; how to discern credible sources (ensure research and evidence based information is used), and translate research into practical, engaging and appropriate practice (develop interactive curriculum components that convey relevant information).
