Livestock Production
CCE livestock programs and resources are available for a variety of livestock such as beef cattle, sheep, dairy and meat goats which are raised on all sizes of operations from small farms to larger commercial producers. These resources are closely closley connected to 4-H Youth Development animal science programs.

USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service has provided information on the number of livestock in NYS.  Jan. 1, 2010 counts: 90,000 total beef cows, 91,000 heifers/steers >500 lbs., 13,000 milk goats, 35,000 meat goats, 77,000 hogs and 66,000 sheep.

Cornell Cooperative Extension educators work closely to link Cornell researchers with livestock producers to address the needs of the industry which include supporting the growth of local foods initiatives.
