Nutrient Management
In New York State, more than 60% of the over seven million acres of available farmland is used for crop production. Maintaining excellent soil health is critical to the sustainability of agriculture.

Cornell research focuses on best management practices (BMPs) for soil nutrients, such as nitrogen. BMPs involve ensuring adequate amounts for crops  to grow and minimizing the same nutrients during the fall and winter months to lessen the chance of surface and ground water contamination.

Cornell Cooperative Extension educators provide a direct link between faculty researchers, resources, and producers.
